Some progress made

Mike got my backup going so I was able to find about 6000 missing images and copy them over.  I just need to run my script now.  I'll have to modify the code first though.  I'm still missing images for about 2100 posts between 10/14/03 to 8/25/2005.  The outlook of finding these images are bleak.  I do have an idea though.

I may create  a page letting users who have the missing images on their computer re-upload them and my code would automatially repopulate the posts with missing images with those.  It would require a little effort on the user's end - but I'm thinking that we could at least restore some to most of these images that way.  2100 or so posts isn't to bad considering we have over 200,000 posts overall.  I'll keep you posted.

Today's Update

I got to playing around with Mango Blog today.  It's a really nice blog platform.  The only issue is that I am going to have to integrate it into our current set of usernames and passwords.  Mango wants to create it's own users for each blog.  The whole idea is to be able to have one login at LongarmChat.com and be logged into your blog control panel. 

I started writing some code today that will allow users to create their own blog without having to go outside LAC. 

As for the missing images, still trying to get a hold of Mike (my contact at birdhosting.com) to get me some server info so I can pull off all the missing images from the backup server.

A new blog for development of LongarmChat.com

Hello all.  I decided to start this blog to keep you all updated of the progress we are making at LongarmChat.com.  Aside from all the site adminsitration announcements - this will allow me to go a little further into detail into what is going on behind the scenes. 

Here's a list of what I am working on in order of priority:

1. Restoring missing image files in some of the older posts
   I am copying over hundreds of images from a backup and then I need to run a script to fix the code
2. Restoring Private messaging between users / contact options
3. Restoring / rebuilding user's blogs.  You are looking at a blog that may be the foundation for future blogs at LongarmChat.com.  This blog engine can import your posts from Blogger, Wordpress, and some others.
4. Tweaking Search
5. There are some things I can enhance the search engine with which will need to be done.  This will increase accuracy of the search results.
   

There's my short list for now.  I'll keep you all posted through this blog on my progress.
